Satvic Diet experience

Writer: Anisha AnilAnisha Anil

Hello people!

How are you?

Wish you all a very Happy Makar Sankranthi šŸŖ

In this blog post, I will be sharing my Satvic Diet experience.

What is a Satvic Diet/Lifestyle?

The food we consume can be classified into three types ā€“ Satvic, Rajasic and Tamasic. When we eat Tamasic foods, we feel heaviness, inertia and dullness in our body. Too much rajas upsets our system, causing insomnia and anxiety. When we consume Satvic foods, we experience a sense of lightness, peace and serenity in the body and mind, defining true health. A Satvic diet is a plant-based diet following Ayurvedic principles. The food consumed should be fresh, not genetically modified and without chemicals in the process of growing and delivery. Followed with the diet, a Satvic lifestyle comprises of practising exercise/yoga, sunbathing, using enema and wet pack for complete healing from chronic diseases.

Why did I choose to follow this diet?

I've had acne since I was a teenager. I've consulted dermatologists both online and in-person in Pune, Bangalore and Indore. The creams and medicines prescribed by the Dermats never completely cleared my acne. During lockdown, I stayed in my hometown, where the summer temperatures would rise upto 40 degrees Celsius. My acne was at its worst at this point. One day, I watched a video by Satvic Movement on how to permanently remove pimples and get clear and spotless skin. In the video, they explained the root cause of pimples and the methods to get rid of it. Since, I had already consulted Dermats from various fields such as Ayurveda, Homeopathy and modern medicine and nothing worked, so I decided to give Satvic Lifestyle a try.

My Experience?

On January 16, 2021, I attended a health transformation workshop hosted by Satvic Movement. On January 18, 2021, I began the Satvic lifestyle, followed by a healing diet plan of morning detox juice, fruits for breakfast, Satvic sabzi and roti/brown rice cooked in earthen pot and tawa for lunch and soup/salad for dinner. In between, I did a 3-day juice fast. The following are the benefits I observed:

  • Along with the diet, I began practising mindful eating from the first day onward. The Satvic team also advised drinking water only when thirsty. All of this made me feel extremely light and active.

  • Because of reduced body compulsions, I was able to sleep effortlessly as soon as I hit the bed.

However, the grass was not that green on the other side. I have faced the following challenges/cons as well:

  • The cooking part was a huge struggle because the methods explained by the Satvic team to prepare regular meals were different from our usual methods, such as not using onion, garlic, oil (of any kind), white rice, wheat flour without choker, etc. Furthermore, if you don't have a proper juicer, preparing the morning detox juice can be a hassle.

  • I continued following this lifestyle for 15 days and had to stop because my acne was getting worse day by day. I started getting acne even on my forehead and neck which never happened before.

  • Another reason was my weight which got reduced drastically. I began to lose a lot of body fat. Before starting the diet, I weighed around 53 kg. Within these 15 days, I lost 6 kg and weighed 47 kg.

My take

If you have any plans for the next 3-4 months, such as a wedding or travel, then I would suggest you avoid this diet as you don't know how your body will react to it, especially if you've any existing illness such as acne, hair loss, diabetes, thyroid, etc- as it may fix it or worsen it. I hope you learnt something through reading this blog. If Yes, then make sure to like the blog, comment, share and subscribe to the email newsletter if you haven't yet.
