The 5 AM Club

Writer: Anisha AnilAnisha Anil

Hello people! We all know that neither every book is worth reading nor we can read all of them. I read somewhere that more than one million books are published every year in the United States alone. So, for the coming four weeks, I will be sharing a short summary, lessons, my favourite lines of the book which I read and the answer to the famous question, "Is the book worth reading?" 😅 Today's book is The 5 AM Club- by Robin Sharma!

A quick summary

An entrepreneur, in her late thirties, widely celebrated as a titan of her industry & a philanthropist was now facing a mean-spirited & jealousy-fueled coup that would significantly dilute her ownership stake in the business she'd invested most of her life building, forcing her to find a new job. She considered swallowing a gigantic bottle of sleeping pills. Just take them all and get the job done fast, she thought. Then, she spotted a ticket to a personal optimization conference that her mother had given her. Either she'd go to the seminar and experience some breakthrough that would save her life or she'd find her peace via a quick death. At last, she decided to go to the seminar. An artist had come to the event to understand how to fuel his creativity and multiply his capability so he could make an enduring mark on his field by the paintings he generated. The entrepreneur and the artist had been seated together. This was the first time they'd met. And a homeless man in his tattered clothes appeared to have sneaked into the conference hall while no one was watching. Later, this homeless man, in his sixties, Mr. Stone Riley, turned out to be a billionaire and a ninja in his industry. He spoke to the entrepreneur and the artist about how he built his empire by adopting a world-class morning routine. He offered them to spend the coming days with him to share the knowledge of dialling into personal mastery and exceptional business performance. The entrepreneur and the artist agreed to get along in this weird venture and showed up in front of the same conference hall at 5 am the next day. A gleaming Rolls-Royce pulled up which took them to a private airport. The pilot accelerated up to an ivory iet that had "5AC" written on its tail. No sign of Mr. Riley yet. The pilot called up to the jet and said, "Have fun in Mauritius." After a perfect landing, a black Range Rover rolled along the highway and lead to the billionaire's house. "Welcome to The 5 AM Club!" the billionaire bellowed & graciously extended a hand to greet his two guests. And now the lessons begin. During the course, they travelled to Taj Mahal, Rome and at last, Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was confined for 18 out of 27 years he was imprisoned. Five years later, Stone Riley passed away in his sleep as he had been suffering from a rare and incurable disease. He completely liquidated the various ventures of his vast business empire and gave the entire amount to charity. The entrepreneur has become a fabulously wealthy woman, having grown the company she founded into an iconic enterprise. She no longer cares much about fame, fortune and worldly power, even though she now has all these things. The artist has become one of the most celebrated painters in this field. He completely beats procrastination issues and is widely considered a master of his craft and is an extraordinary husband. The couple has a wonderfully handsome and ever so intelligent little boy. They named him Stone.

My favourite lines/paragraphs
  • I hope you live a life you're proud of. If you find that you're not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again. -F. Scott Fitzgerald

  • If you sense your life's a mess right now, this is simply because your fears are just a little stronger than your faith.

  • All change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end. Everything you now find easy, you first found difficult.

  • One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today. -Dale Carnegie

Is the book worth reading?

You can give a thought of reading this book if:

  • You have figured out that morning is the time of the day when you get the work done with minimum effort. I will give my example- In my college years, being wakeful till 4-5 am was less challenging than waking up at 6-7 am. However, now it's almost the opposite (except on a vacation).

  • You don't have any other bad habits to minimize or good habits to build depending on your current state/lifestyle.

I hope, this blog post have at least provided you with some insight into what the book 'The 5 AM Club' is about. Do let me know in the comments which should be the next book you would like us to read. I hope you learnt something through reading this blog. If Yes, then make sure to like the blog, comment, share and subscribe to the email newsletter if you haven't yet. I post a blog every Monday at 7 pm IST, until then Happy Reading!
